nu descendant un escalier – 1912 Marcel Duchamp*
Πέντε σκάλες
- μία σκάλα στενή, για τον πάνω όροφο, ανάμεσα σε δύο τοίχους στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Σαντορίνης.
- μία σκάλα τόσο στενή που σχεδόν μοιάζει ψεύτικη στο ανάκτορο του Γαλέριου στη Θεσσαλονίκη.
- μία σκάλα αδέξια σχεδιασμένη είτε από καλογεροπαίδι είτε από εντελώς ατάλαντο καλόγερο, σ’ ένα χειρόγραφο που άνοιξα τυχαία και στα κλεφτά στη βιβλιοθήκη της Μονής της Πάτμου – η σκάλα του αγίου Ιωάννη της Κλίμακος.
- μία σκάλα στα Λιόσια, στο σεισμό του ’99 που γκρεμιζόταν σκαλί σκαλί καθώς τη κατέβαιναν τρέχοντας μία γυναίκα με τον γιο της.
- οι αναβαθμοί στο αρχαίο θέατρο του Άργους που αναπτύσσονται πάνω στο πρανές του λόφου, αλλά και οι αναβαθμοί στο φράγμα του Μαραθώνα.
Αυτές οι σκάλες, οι κλίμακες όπως τις ονομάζει ο Χριστόφορος, ορίζουν και ορίζονται από την κίνηση του ανθρώπινου σώματος, το μέγεθός του, τις ανάγκες του, και του καθορίζουν υποχρεωτικές διαδρομές στον χώρο.
- δημιουργούν χώρο αλλά ταυτόχρονα διαμορφώνονται από τη μορφή του εδάφους.
- μιλούν για κίνδυνο, βιασύνη, φυγή, καταστροφή, αλλά και ανάταση και ουράνια ευδαιμονία.
γι’ αυτή την έκθεση έφτιαξα μία οπτική Χαλιμά προσώπων που συνωστίζονται συναθροισμένα σε αναβαθμούς και σχεδίασα με καλουπόχαρτο τις δικές μου φαντασιακές αυθαίρετες και αδιάβατες διαδρομές πάνω στις κλίμακες της πολυκατοικίας μου και μετά να τις αποκολλήσω.

Five staircases
- a narrow staircase to the upper floor between two walls in the archaeological site of Santorini.
- a staircase so tight that looks almost phony in the Galerius palace in Thessaloniki.
- a ladder inexpertly drawn, by either a novice or a talentless monk, in a manuscript I opened at random, and covertly, in the library of Patmos Monastery: the ladder of St John Climacus.
- a staircase at Liosia that collapsed step by step in the earthquake of ’99 as a woman and her son were running down.
- the tiers in the ancient theatre of Argos that climb up the slope of the hill, or those on the Marathon dam.
These stairs, or climaxes, as Christoforos calls them, define and are defined by the motion of the human body, its size and its needs, and impose obligatory routes in space.
- they create space at the same time as being shaped by the form of the ground;
- they speak of danger, haste, flight, disaster but also of uplift and celestial bliss;
For this show I made a visual Halima of individuals crammed on tiers, and I drew on paper my own imaginary, arbitrary and impassable routes along the stairs of my apartment block, which I then removed.
